Sunday Night Blues

Oh, the curse of the working class...Sunday night blues. The discontent of not having done enough over the weekend. The anticipation of a long week at work. The uncertainty of what will show up in your inbox at work. Oh, I remember it well. So this being the first Sunday night after an all-too-brief weekend I am just waiting for Sunday night blues to hit. But guess what? Nothing so far. Maybe it's because I do like this job so far. Maybe it's because I work only a 5 hour day. Maybe it's all the newness. What I do know is the last job I worked I had all kinds of alarm bells going off the first week of work.

Oh, it was nice and all...I got taken to fancy restaurants on the Downtown Mall EVERY DAY during my first week. I know you're not supposed to look a gift horse in the mouth, but my thought at the time was, "Why are they bribing me with food?" I had to fight to go to work every day for the first month and came THIS CLOSE to quitting more than once. Still can't figure out why I didn't since I knew from the get-go that it was one of those places where I would just survive and not thrive. I lasted 6 1/2 years and I have to say they were not absolutely miserable, but they weren't altogether pleasant either.

So far, the new place...needs some work particularly on the benefits end, but the other aspects of work are good. Good people, good boss, people who have confidence in me and are assured that I will do a good job...and I will. That goes a long way towards job satisfaction. It's not all about the money folks. It's the corporate culture and the belief that you're hiring competent people and stepping back and letting them do their thing.

No Sunday Night Blues here, folks. I'm looking forward to going to work in the a.m. I get to learn something new this week. That's a good thing.

Hey Annapants! Glad to hear that. I processed payroll today. Wasn't too painful. I think I'll give it a shot in another two weeks.
