The Job Hunt

Well, I've been out of work since the first of July. Downsized by a company that has a very aggressive philosophy about sending a lot of its work to India. Why not pay someone in India $4,000/year to do data entry rather than paying someone here much, much more than that (for more than data entry, but you catch my drift). So, I've been on the hunt for a new job. Am in a specialized field that usually has a small department in any organization (human resources). My specialty is benefits. I used to tell new employees in orientation that it was God's little joke on me: to make me sit and explain all those health plans to new staff. When my husband worked and I was a stay-at-home mom, volunteering at my daughter's school and serving on Boards, he would bring home the benefits information from his job and drop it in my lap, asking me to figure it all out and sign us up for one health plan or another. I used to look at him befuddled and confused. Once I went into HR I was the person who got to confuse others.

So, after a long time looking and applying for somethings that I have a really good shot at and others that are a really LONG shot, I am now faced with the possibility of not one, but maybe, just maybe, two offers. One position is part time, for less money and is here in Charlottesville. The other position is for more money and potential bonuses, full-time and is an hour away. Each would be interesting. Each would be challenging. The one locally is with a small organization that plans to stay small. The one that is remote is with a larger company that is working on doubling its size rapidly. What to do...what to do. Well, maybe I'm being presumptive and I'll only have one offer, if that.

When it rains it pours.

Hey,
Thanks...I was feeling guilty about not blogging. As to the jobs, I sense that it's close this time. The question is if they both ask, which one...which one...I may be calling you next week. HUGS
