The moms

Well, the ugly truth is out...I'm terrible about keeping up with my blogging. I love reading others' blogs, but find it a little troublesome to think of something to say myself. I will try to do better.

December was a month for putting both my mother and my mother-in-law in the hospital. My mom went in two and a half weeks before Christmas. Went in on a Friday and got out the following Friday. Got diagnosed with an irregular heart beat (manageable with either medication or by a shock to get the heart back into its normal rhythym), and CHF (Congestive heart failure). So she is home now, is on various and sundry medications, but is looking much better than she had been looking with all that fluid building up around her heart and being unable to breathe, so we're pleased at her progress.

My mother-in-law was hospitalized the Friday after Christmas with a diagnosis of anemia. After lots of testing and a couple of blood transfusions, a bone marrow biopsy and a CT scan the final diagnosis of lymphoma was made. So at 83 she began her first dose of chemotherapy this week. True to form she is being a real trooper: upbeat and positive. She is a lovely, classy lady and I am really unhappy about this diagnosis, but I will be as gracious about it as she is being. I have the best in-laws in the world and hate to see bad things happen to good people. My father-in-law died about four years ago, and is sorely missed, but he was a wonderful man and his presence is still felt within the family.

As my mother-in-law says, "Aging isn't for sissies". Amen, sister.

We're taking all good wishes, prayers and potions for both mothers, and thanks!
